Dear COA Members, Colleagues and Friends,

The COA continues to build on its proven strengths, one of which has become the value of the Annual Meeting. The 2013 COA Annual Meeting in Winnipeg promises to deliver on this pledge.

On behalf of your Executive, let me take this occasion to invite you to attend our 2013 COA Annual Meeting in Winnipeg, from June 20 to 22. It promises to be an exceptional educational and social experience with a host of opportunities that should more than meet your needs.

Building on the success of the Ottawa event, Drs. Eric Bohm and Ted Tufescu and the COA Annual Meeting Program Committee will construct an excellent educational program that will reflect your learning requests and needs, again with symposia, instructional course lectures, debates and panel discussions, workshops, tips and tricks sessions, and a subspecialty day. Recognizing the importance of the Canadian Orthopaedic Residents’ Association and Canadian Orthopaedic Research Society to the COA, these groups will also host their meetings in conjunction with the COA Annual Meeting.

Dr. Warren Froese, our Local Arrangements Committee Chair, gave you a hint of the rich flavour of Winnipeg at the Ottawa meeting. He has committed to putting together an outstanding social program for our members and their families as they spend time in Manitoba’s capital. Winnipeg has many attractions including Assiniboine Park, The Forks, The Royal Canadian Mint, the new Canadian Museum for Human Rights, the Children’s Museum, IMAX theatre and Planetarium, to name but a few. Valor Road is close by, the road from which originated no less than three soldiers who were awarded Victoria Crosses.

Our Annual Meeting gives us perpetual pupils an excellent opportunity to update and advance our orthopaedic knowledge, and to reconnect with each other from across the country and around the globe.

Please plan to attend the meeting from June 20 to 22, 2013 and bring your family, as Winnipeg has appeal for everyone. Reserve the dates on your calendar now! I look forward to seeing you there.

Best personal regards,

Geoffrey Johnston, MD, MBA, FRCSC
President, Canadian Orthopedic Association
